     Roger Clapp was born on 2 Apr 1609 in Salcombe, England.1 Roger was baptized on 6 Apr 1609 at Salcombe.2 He married Joanna Ford on 6 Nov 1633 at Dorchester, Massachusetts.1,3 He died on 2 Feb 1690/91 in Boston, Massachusetts.1,2

     Roger Clapp took the oath of fidelity in Dorchester on 14 May 16341 He was a number of times a Deputy for Dorchester to the Massachussetts Bay General Court, served on countless committees, and was a Selectman for Dorchester. He was granted sixteen acres in the Great Lots in Dorchester on 4 Jan 1635/36. On 1 Feb 1635[/6] he was granted two acres in the second marsh, and on 2 Jan 1637/8 half an acre adjoining to the meadow at Powow point. He received four acres in the division of the Neck and four acres in the division of other land on 18 Mar 1637/8.1
Roger Clapp and Joanna Ford had fourteen children, all born or baptized in Dorchester: Samuel (b. 11 Oct 1634), Wiliiam (b. 2 Jul 1636), Elizabeth (b. 22 Jun 1638), Experience (fem. b. 23 Aug 1640, d. 1 Nov 1640), Waitstill (male, b. 22 Oct 1641, d. 9 Aug 1643), Preserved (b. 23 Nov 1643), Experience (bp. 21 Dec 1645), Hopestill (bp. 6 Dec 1647), Thanks (bp. 25 Aug 1650), Wait (fem. bp. 24 Mar 1650/1), Desire (male, b. c. 1653), Thomas (bp. 29 Apr 1655), Unite (bp. 19 Oct 1656, d. 20 Mar 1664), and Supply (bp. 4 Nov 1660, d. 7 Mar 1685/6, by the accidental firing of his gun).1
Roger Clapp made a will on 19 Nov 1690.
It mentions his [unnamed] wife, his eldest son Samuel, who gets the majority of the property, his son Preserved, who had already received most of his share, his son Hopestill, his son Desire, his daughters Elisabeth and Waite, who each get small gifts, his cousin Esther Bessesk and Constant Dewery, who get 10 s. as do his grandchildren. His wife and son Samuel are to be executors, and his friend Elder James Blake and cousin Thomas Swift were to be the overseers. The will was proved on 5 Mar 1690/91.1
