Herman was from Heerlijkheid Almelo at his marriage.1 He married (NH) Fenneke Spijkers, daughter of Herman Spijkers and Geertruid ten Bruggenkate, on 20 Sep 1744 in Almelo1,3 (banns 22 Aug 1744, Almelo).1 He died in Jun 1785 in Almelo.2,4

Herman and Isaac ten Bruggenkate were accused of murder of the steward of "Huize Ootmarsum." They were imprisoned in October in "Huize Almelo", but escaped on 12 Feb 1748. On 2 March 1751 they are convicted in absentia, and sentenced to a fine of 100 silver ducates and all court costs5,6 On 26 Jun 1747 they send a petition to the Court of Overijssel to plead their case.3
The Amsterdamse Courant published on 13 Jul 1748 a notice for apprehension of Herman ten Bruggencate and Isaac ten Bruggenkate in connection with the murder of the Drost of Ootmarsum. Repeated on 18 July.
Harmen ten Bruggenkate Janszn. and Harmen ten Bruggenkate Benjzn. were the guardians of the minor children of the late Bernardus Spiekers and Geesken ten Bruggencate for the sale of a house on 20 Jun 1768.8
Herman ten Bruggencate made a will on 31 Mar 1781. He names his wife Fenneke Spijkers, his brother Benjamin and his nieces and nephews Janna Troost, Cornelia Troost, Benjamina Troost, Fenneke Troost, Cornelis Troost, Alletta Troost, Catharina Troost, Janna ten Bruggencate, Geesken ten Bruggenkate, Gesina Margaretha ten Bruggencate, Geertruijd ten Bruggenkate and Barend ten Bruggencate.2 His will was probated on 3 Jun 1785 in Stadsgericht Almelo. Benjamin ten Bruggencate, Fenneke Troost, Geertruij Spijkers, Gesina Margaretha ten Bruggencate and Berendina Bertelink were present.2

Next Hermen and Isaac ten Bruggencate, two skippers from the town of Almelo, the first about 40 yrs old, of average stature, black curly hair, straight figure, wearing a brown suit; the second of average stature, brown colored, a bit pockmarked, about 30 years old, having committed on 5 June 1747 a gruesome murder in Ootmarssum at the house and on the person of W.H. Droghorn, the Steward of the Baron van Helden, and then per edicta ad valvas having been cited to defend themselves ex carcere, having, instead of consenting, given themselves as hostages to the Hr. of Almelo. The Hr. of Almelo was supposed to have his Judge take the case, but when they heard that they escaped in the night, and no one knows where they are. As it is utterly important that such an terrible act gets properly punished, the R.F. Baron of Heerde, Lord of Everdingen, temporary Drost of Twente, has promised a sum of 100 silver ducatons to any one who has information that will bring the aforementioned Hermen and Is. ten Bruggencate in the hands of the Dept. of Justice.7
